Platinum versus Gold

Platinum certification means less waste heat at typical loads, which in practice shows as a quieter fan and lower running cost over the life of the unit. On a 1200W supply running a 600W system the difference against Gold is a few watts, so buy Platinum for the build quality and the acoustics rather than expecting the electricity saving to pay for itself quickly.

Before you buy: Confirm your case takes a longer ATX unit. 1200W supplies are usually deeper than the 140mm reference length, so check the clearance behind the front radiator mount.
