Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu share the lead in the eighth mainline entry, and for the first time the series spends most of its runtime outside Japan. Honolulu is a genuinely large map, not a set piece, and the turn based combat has been rebuilt around free movement.
Combat
You can reposition party members before they act. Back attacks land harder, standing near an ally or a loose bicycle changes what happens next. The job system is themed on real occupations, from Samurai and Desperado to Aquanaut and Chef. Kiryu keeps his own Dragon of Dojima job that briefly drops him back into real time brawling.
Three cities
Honolulu in Hawaii, Isezaki Ijincho in Yokohama and Kamurocho in Tokyo, all explorable.
Side content
Dondoko Island is a full resort management mode with gathering, crafting, building and guest ratings. Sujimon lets you recruit street enemies and run them in a league. Then there is karaoke, darts, golf, mahjong, Crazy Delivery, a Miss Earth pageant and a dating app.
